The creation of the combined dermatology-stoma clinic at Gold Coast University was a major advancement for the treatment of patients with stoma related skin conditions, allowing the stoma services team direct access to the dermatology department in a combined setting in a time critical sense rather than the usual process of an outpatient referral/triage setting. This has allowed prompt and immediate diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as peristomal pyoderma gangrenosum, irritant and allergic contact dermatitis without affecting the functionality stomas.
This presentation represents the development of this unique service with advances and changes to the service to best serve patients seen in our combined clinic and to provide guidance to other hospitals were such a service to be introduced.
