Session Title: Miscellaneous and Other Surprises

Session Time: -

In October 2017 dermatology research fellow Dr Emily Forward and consultant dermatologist Dr Irene Grigoris travelled to Madagascar to volunteer their services. Irene and Emily spent one week in Antananarivo seeing inpatients with complex developing world diseases and running outpatient clinics seeing up to 20 patients per clinic session with varied and vast dermatological pathologies. They then travelled to Tulear where they proceeded to run outpatient clinics for rural patients. This trip was the first of its kind and the objective was to recognise challenges encountered by the local medical professionals in diagnosing and managing common dermatological diseases and identify feasible ways to strengthen dermatology services in Madagascar.
In this presentation they will discuss their experience in Madagascar and some of the more interesting cases encountered and finally discuss the areas of unmet need and the potential role for a future telecommunication service.
